Pharmacotherapy Consultant Services
RxCS provides individual pharmacy consulting services. These services include education to the individual patient and/or their caregiver pertaining to their medications and disease states. This education gives the patient and/or their caregiver the information needed to partner with their physician(s) to manage their health care. The goal of these services is to improve overall healthcare and to promote safe and effective use of all medications, including, non-prescription, vitamins, and herbal products. Medication regimens are reviewed for any possible medication-related problems, such as adverse reactions, drug interactions, inappropriate therapy or doses. A report is provided to the patient and/or caregiver and physician, where appropriate. Other services include medication scheduling, patient assistance programs and in-services for other health care professionals and unbiased information for other health care professionals. Jennifer Darnell is the founder and sole proprietor of RxCS.
How They Got There
Jennifer Darnell, through years of precious experience in hospital, critical care, oncology, and home health care, saw a huge need for patients to become more educated and more involved in their own healthcare. In 1996, her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and then passed away in 1998. Through her experience with this devastating disease, she was able to experience healthcare from a caregiver’s perspective. It was incredibly overwhelming to her as a healthcare professional, which made her realize just how much more overwhelming a chronic illness must be for a person with no medical background. She wanted to give these patients and their families the information they needed to improve their outcomes.

Advice
“All Pharmacists have the ability to provide these services. It is our responsibility to ensure the safe and effective use of all medications, including prescription, non-prescription, vitamins and herbal products. We must see this as our primary responsibility. We must also begin to separate our cognitive services from a product. We receive such extensive training on all pharmaceuticals and we must use this in our everyday practice. We are the experts in all medications and it up to us to ensure that the public sees us this way. We must all think outside the box!”
